Chatham Township's Attorney Retires After 22 Years

Carl Woodward said job centered on doing what was best for town.

Chatham Township's municipal attorney is retiring after more than two decades serving in the role.

Carl Woodward became the township's attorney in 1992, and, before that, served as the zoning board attorney for 12 years, according to NJ.com.

Woodward, who also served as municipal attorney for New Providence, told the website issues that came up in those towns centered on "What is best for the residents of the town?"—not politics.

Prior to working for Chatham Township, Woodward was an assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey in the 1970s, and served as chief of the Environmental Protection Division.

He sings in the choir at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, according to the Chatham Courier.
