Harris Borough's New Mayor; Twp. Supports Hagner

Residents from the Chathams vote in favor of allowing sports betting.

Council Member Bruce Harris will be the next mayor of the Borough of Chatham, defeating Nelson Vaughan by a vote of 1,167 to 852. Results by district are below. James Lonergan and Gerald Helfrich will sit on the Chatham Borough Council.

Vaughan told Chatham Patch he called Harris Tuesday evening to offer his congratulations.

Borough voters also voted in favor of allowing sports betting in the state of New Jersey by a vote of 897 to 766.

Voters in the borough also voted to send Sen. Thomas H. Kean, Jr. back to Trenton for another term, and approved Nancy F. Munoz and Jon Bramnick for another term in the General Assembly. .

Township Voters Support Mayor for Assembly

In Chatham Township, Kathy Abbott and Bailey Brower, Jr. won their uncontested races for the two open seats on the township committee by votes of 1,344 and 1,148, respectively.

Township Mayor Nicole Hagner won the most votes for two open seats in the General Assembly with 1,226 votes in her hometown. Her runningmate, Lee Holtman, had 1,167 votes, but . 

Voters also cast their ballots for William Eames as State Senator over Richard Codey by a vote of 1,082 to 824. They also approved sports betting in the Garden State by a vote of 952 to 762.

Total voter turnout in Chatham Township was 26.9 percent, according to Township Clerk Greg LaConte, who said 2,018 residents came to the polls Tuesday out of 7,489 registered voters.
