ReplyThis is almost as bad as people leaving their house doors open/unlocked when they leave, and then coming home to find their home burglarized and complaining about the crime rate.
Seriously - LOCK YOUR DOORS, take your keys, and the problem is pretty much solved.

A negative comment (aka an opinion) was as warranted as someone elses safety concern (aka an opinion). Distracted drivers don't really care about speed limits or sidewalks. I have seen distracted drivers jump curbs while on a cell phone.
Let's all make that a problem unique to Kings Road now.

ReplySeriously - It happens to be on Kings Road - but it could have happened ANYWHERE. Accidents happen at 10 MPH and at 65 MPH - whether there are sidewalks or not. An overturned car could just as easily jump a curb and kill someone on the sidewalk. Enough already with the sidewalk and speeding crap. People speed all over all the time - I bet YOU even speed occasionally.

Reply"Unforced entry"? People are still leaving doors opened to homes and cars, and are shocked when they are burglarized. The folks with unlocked doors are the easiest mark on the block - don't be so surprised.

ReplyIn this article they are now talking about a sidewalk on the South side of Kings Road. In the previous meeting/article, they stated the sidewalk would be on the NORTH side of Kings Road. The agreement (at the meeting) was for a sidewalk on the NORTH side. Do we need to purchase a COMPASS for the Chatham Borough engineers and safety officers?????

ReplyI hope the owner(s) come forward so that they can be charged with animal abuse, cruelty, and any other appropriate charges. The dog deserves a better home.

ReplyJust an update to my previous trip to the Chatham Farmer's Market this past Saturday (July 28, 2012).
I decided to give that same farmstand (Muth) another chance, and my experience was horrendous. I wanted to purchase a container of what they were calling "Heirloom Tomatoes", so I asked for one. Please note there are only 4 tomatoes in the container, and so I just took out one of the top tomatoes and saw the bottom one (the largest, of course) was MOLDY. I showed him and he gave me another container. Once again, the bottom tomato was MOLDY. I said they shouldn't really hide the moldy tomatoes underneath. He then said that "the tomatoes are organic". HUH? When does being organic mean moldy is OK? The tomatoes were simply too ripe, and started getting moldy (not just a small spot, but a large part of the tomato). The tomato was clearly not edible. Also - he insisted that the large tomato on top was "Heirloom" when it was in fact a regular field tomato. He claimed it was a "Brandywine". I happen to know my heirloom tomatoes, and I am 100% certain it was NOT A BRANDYWINE. Needless to say that was the last straw, and I will not patronize that stand again. I thought I would give them another chance, but they purposely misrepresented their products AGAIN.
I always thought Caveat Emptor (buyer beware) wouldn't pertain to LOCAL farmers markets and family-run farms. I was wrong.
You have to ask questions and know your products. Honesty doesn't appear to exist any longer.

ReplyI had an extremely disappointing observance at the Chatham Borough Farmers Market on July 7th, 2012. I arrived at 8:00AM, just as the market was opening, and I saw one of the fruit and vegetable vendors doing something shocking. This was the large fruit and vegetable vendor directly across from the bakery vendor at the far end of the market - closest to Fairmount Avenue. I saw them opening several of those ziploc-style bags of cherries we get from the grocery store (ShopRite, Stop & Shop, etc) and placing the cherries into small green farmstand containers. It was clear that the cherries were purchased (likely at a sale price, as I had purchased them at ShopRite two days prioer) from a supermarket and simply made to appear as if they were grown locally.
There needs to be some type of regulation regarding these vendors - that should clearly NOT be allowed without CLEAR disclosure as to where the fruit was purchased.
I live in Chatham, but will NOT go to the Chatham Farmers Market again. I will now only go to the Summit Farmers Market on Sunday. It is a much bigger market with LOCAL NJ vendors selling LOCAL NJ produce.
It's sad that people have to be duped into thinking they are buying local, when they are simply being price gouged using supermarket produce.
So much for our lovely town of Chatham.
