Resident 'Appalled' at State of the Flag

Local man asks Post Office to replace their flag.

To the Editor, As a Chatham Borough resident I am appalled at the condition we allow our nations’ flag to be displayed atop the United States Post Office on Main Street. The flag certainly weathered and frayed from recent storms has been reduced to torn remnants. On three separate occasions I have made a request of postal personnel to change the American flag only to be told that they lack the necessary means to ascend to the roof. Proper etiquette of displaying the American flag dictates that once a flag has been rendered unserviceable it should be removed and destroyed in a dignified manner.
