Chatham loses state semifinal to Mountain Lakes but looks forward to next season.
LAWRENCEVILLE — It became clear toward the beginning of Tuesday's Public B girls' swimming semfinal at Lawrence High School that Chatham would have trouble keeping up with rival Mountain Lakes. Mountain Lakes placed first in the meet's opening four races and took a 41-21 lead going into a break. Chatham was unable to make up significant ground and, in the end, fell 106-64 to the Lakers. The Cougars finished their season with a 16-2 record. Both losses were in dual meets against Mountain Lakes. "We lost to a better team today," a disappointed Chatham Head Coach Dave Steele said. After the break, it looked as if Chatham might have been making a comeback. Sophomore Kate Buchser won the 100 meter butterfly and fellow sophomore Julia Harrigan …

Scotch Plains-Fanwood too much for Cougars.
SCOTCH PLAINS — The Cougars gave it everything they had. But when the final results were tallied, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys' swim team, ranked No. 6 in the state, had defeated Chatham 97-73 in the NJSIAA sectional semifinals at the Jewish Community Center of Central NJ on Monday to shut the door on a successful Cougar season. No one was hanging their heads afterwards. "We came in knowing it would be a tough meet," said Chatham senior Adam Weinbrom. "We swam our best. They're just a good team. We did everything we could." Weinbrom's teammates echoed that sentiment. "Like Adam said, we knew it was going to be a tough meet," said senior Kevin Greener. "It's hard not to try your best when you know you have so many people pulling for you. …
