The convicted murderer faces 30 years to life in prison.
Jose Feliciano will appear in Morris County Superior Court for sentencing on April 13. Capt. Jeffrey Paul of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said sentencing was moved from the previous date of March 2 due a scheduling conflict. Feliciano, 66, was found guilty of seven charges related to the stabbing death of the Rev. Edward Hinds, the pastor at St. Patrick Church in Chatham Borough, on Oct. 22, 2009. Two of the charges were murder charges: felony murder and murder. He was also found guilty of two counts of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and hindering his own arrest. Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi moved to consolidate three aggravating charges into one, since the 30-year mandatory sentence for felony murder meant…

A hearing before a Morristown judge will determine whether the accused murderer's former record can be used against him.
Jose Feliciano is scheduled to appear before a judge in Morristown on Monday for a hearing which will determine whether his "prior bad acts" can be used against him in trial. Feliciano is charged with allegedly murdering the Rev. Edward Hinds, the pastor at St. Patrick Church in Chatham Borough on Oct. 22, 2009. Morris County Prosecutor John McNamara, Jr. wants to argue that Hinds had discovered an open warrant on Feliciano in Pennsylvania for inappropriate sexual behavior with a minor, and that he was about to terminate Feliciano's employment as a custodian at St. Patrick School and Church. McNamara has said that Hinds' computer showed he had conducted research into Feliciano's criminal past. St. Patrick's has a policy of conducting …

Accused murderer will be in court again in the new year.
Accused murderer Jose Feliciano's court date before Judge Thomas Manahan has been postponed until Jan. 4. Feliciano was scheduled to appear before Judge Thomas Manahan in Morristown this week. The court date was postponed because the prosecutor in the case, John McNamara, is in trial on another case and unavailable to appear. Motions from Feliciano's public defender Neill Hamilton were due on Nov. 8. Hamilton stated in an October appearance before Judge Manahan that his client would pursue an insanity defense. Results from a psychiatric examination by Dr. Robert Latimer of Montclair was due Dec. 6. Chatham Township saw a rise in domestic violence while more violent crimes were reported in the borough in 2009, according to the Uniform Crime Report released Thursday by the New Jersey State Police. The borough and township both saw increases in the crime index total, mainly propelled by a substantial rise in larceny incidents. Larceny rose from 26 incidents in 2008 to 43 in 2009 in the borough, and from 20 to 44 in the township. Overall, Morris County saw drops in both violent and non-violent crime from 2008 to 2009, according to the report. Feliciano and his attorney appeared for pre-trial motions Monday.
MORRISTOWN—Accused killer Jose Feliciano will pursue an insanity defense in the charges of murdering Rev. Edward Hinds of St. Patrick Church in Chatham Borough. Feliciano's attorney, Neill Hamilton, said Monday he will file a notice of insanity and several other motions, including a motion to suppress cell phone records and a motion to dismiss. Judge Thomas Manahan, sitting in Morristown, gave Hamilton a deadline of Nov. 8 for all motions by the defense and scheduled a hearing Thursday for the defense's motion to dismiss the superseding indictment. Feliciano was recently examined by a psychiatrist who practices in Montclair, according to second chair defense attorney Ana Tent. The doctor's report will not be completed until Dec. 6. Manahan…

Accused murderer had an appearance scheduled for Tuesday to be arraigned on new charges.
MORRISTOWN—Accused murderer Jose Feliciano had his arraignment on new charges delayed Tuesday for the second time. Feliciano's original court date of Oct. 6 was moved to Tuesday morning. However, the presiding judge in the case, Judge Thomas V. Manahan, is out sick this week, according to a courthouse bailiff. The arraignment on revised charges will likely take place next week. Judge Manahan has set aside the entire week of Oct. 18 for pre-trial motions, including the results of a psychiatric examination ordered by Feliciano's attorney. Feliciano is accused of murdering the Rev. Edward Hinds, the pastor at St. Patrick's Church in Chatham Borough. The revised indictment had minor changes to the language of the first count of first-degree …

Oktoberfest is second event in celebration of the life of the Rev. Edward Hinds.
An Oktoberfest, filled with German food, beer and music, will take place this Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chatham Borough. The Oktoberfest—the parish's first—will mark the second of seven "Many Hands, Many Hearts, One Community" events over six weeks to celebrate the life of the late pastor, the Rev. Edward Hinds, who was murdered last October. "It was such a tragic thing that happened, that we wanted to direct energy toward something positive," Karen Swartz, a parishioner assisting with the event's publicity, said. "Luckily, we have a number of wonderful volunteers who have helped to bring all of this together." Swartz said the basic feel of the evening will be light and casual, with a buffet of various Bavarian foods …

The fact that taxpayers have to fund this monster's defense is an outrage. He's a criminal who knew exactly what he was doing - it was premeditated and vicious. His criminal past was about to catch up to him so he killed a good man in an attempt to keep his cover. Insane? Hardly.   more ›
