Young Thespians Honored at Theatre Night Awards

Chatham High School's "Our Town" garnered no awards, but are honored by their seven nominations.

Curtain up! Light the lights! New Jersey’s brightest young stars were honored Thursday night at the Third Annual Theatre Night Awards, held at Montclair State University. The Theater Night Awards rewards the best in high school theater, doling out trophies for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design, Outstanding Performance by an Actress, Outstanding Overall Production, and more. Chatham’s production of Our Town was fortunate enough to rake in seven nominations, including Outstanding Actress, Outstanding Actor, and Outstanding Overall Production. 'Our Town' Cast and Crew Prepare for Awards Night

The Chatham High fall drama was nominated for seven awards.

Six students and seven parents from Chatham High School will head to Montclair State University Thursday for the third annual Theatre Night Awards, hoping to walk away with awards from the fall production of "Our Town." Lynn Polan, the high school's theater teacher and the director of "Our Town," said that win or lose, she is "really proud" of all the students and parents who worked on the show. "I thought it was a really good production, and I'm pleased it's getting some recognition," Polan said. The awards ceremony is offered through the Theatre Department at MSU to recognize outstanding drama productions at the high school level. Seven Theatre Night Nominations for 'Our Town'

The CHS fall production has earned the students some attention.

This year at Montclair State University's third annual Theatre Night Awards, they can expect a significant Chatham contingent. The awards, which are offered for excellence in for high school drama productions, have nominees Chatham High School's fall production of "Our Town" in seven categories: Polan, the Chatham High School theater teacher and director of "Our Town," said of the news, "I'm really proud of it. I thought it was a really good production, and I'm pleased it's getting some recognition." This is Polan's second year teaching at Chatham High School, and the third year that Montclair State is holding the Theatre Night Awards. 'Our Town' Comes Home in High School Play

Famous play premiered in New Jersey, is now revived in Chatham

On Jan. 22, 1938, Thornton Wilder's masterpiece "Our Town" premiered at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton. On Thursday, Chatham seniors were invited to see the enduring drama returned to its native state in a dress rehearsal at Chatham High School. When the play officially opens Friday, director Lynn Polan and her intrepid cast will present a "Town" brimming with humor, pathos and Truth. Set in the mythic village of Grover's Corners, N.H. in the years between 1901 and 1913, Wilder's town is meant to represent any community, at any time, in any location. The author sought "to find a value above all price for the smallest events of our daily life." In three crisp acts, which Polan's judicious editing make even more succinct, the play …
