Sentencing brings closer to murder victim's family, friends, parish.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi, along with family and friends of the Rev. Edward Hinds, held a press conference outside the courtroom in which convicted murderer Jose Feliciano was sentenced to life without parole. Bianchi said the trial was an "angry and disgusting thing. ... It was bad enough he murdered the man, he murdered his reputation afterwards." Feliciano was sentenced Friday after being found guilty of seven counts related to the murder of Hinds, known to his parish as "Father Ed," who was formerly the pastor at St. Patrick Church in Chatham Borough. Feliciano stabbed Hinds 44 times in the evening of Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009. Hinds' body was found the following morning. Hinds' cousin, Daniel Silas Miller, and friends …

The convicted murderer faces 30 years to life in prison.
Jose Feliciano will appear in Morris County Superior Court for sentencing on Friday, April 20. Capt. Jeffrey Paul of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said sentencing was moved from the previously-scheduled date of Friday, April 13. This is the second time the sentencing has been delayed. A previous date of March 2 was changed due a scheduling conflict. Feliciano, 66, was found guilty of seven charges related to the stabbing death of the Rev. Edward Hinds, the pastor at St. Patrick Church in Chatham Borough, on Oct. 22, 2009. Two of the charges were murder charges: felony murder and murder. He was also found guilty of two counts of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and hindering his own arrest. Morris County Prosecutor Robert A…

Former St. Patrick's custodian turns down 30-years-to-life sentence agreement.
Jose Feliciano, the custodian at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church accused in the 2009 stabbing death of Rev. Edward Hinds, rejected Monday a plea offer and said in Morristown Superior Court that he preferred to have a trial. In doing so, Feliciano traded a possible 30-year-to-life sentence for one that could reach 75 years to life if he is convicted of felony murder, plus additional years for underlying charges. Mostly nodding, and then speaking so softly that Superior Court Judge Thomas V. Manahan at a pre-trial conference asked Feliciano to speak up so he could be heard on the recording of the hearing, Feliciano said “yes” to a series of questions regarding the charges posed by the judge. Manahan asked Feliciano if he understood that …

A hearing before a Morristown judge will determine whether the accused murderer's former record can be used against him.
Jose Feliciano is scheduled to appear before a judge in Morristown on Monday for a hearing which will determine whether his "prior bad acts" can be used against him in trial. Feliciano is charged with allegedly murdering the Rev. Edward Hinds, the pastor at St. Patrick Church in Chatham Borough on Oct. 22, 2009. Morris County Prosecutor John McNamara, Jr. wants to argue that Hinds had discovered an open warrant on Feliciano in Pennsylvania for inappropriate sexual behavior with a minor, and that he was about to terminate Feliciano's employment as a custodian at St. Patrick School and Church. McNamara has said that Hinds' computer showed he had conducted research into Feliciano's criminal past. St. Patrick's has a policy of conducting …

Feliciano and his attorney appeared for pre-trial motions Monday.
MORRISTOWN—Accused killer Jose Feliciano will pursue an insanity defense in the charges of murdering Rev. Edward Hinds of St. Patrick Church in Chatham Borough. Feliciano's attorney, Neill Hamilton, said Monday he will file a notice of insanity and several other motions, including a motion to suppress cell phone records and a motion to dismiss. Judge Thomas Manahan, sitting in Morristown, gave Hamilton a deadline of Nov. 8 for all motions by the defense and scheduled a hearing Thursday for the defense's motion to dismiss the superseding indictment. Feliciano was recently examined by a psychiatrist who practices in Montclair, according to second chair defense attorney Ana Tent. The doctor's report will not be completed until Dec. 6. Manahan…

The fact that taxpayers have to fund this monster's defense is an outrage. He's a criminal who knew exactly what he was doing - it was premeditated and vicious. His criminal past was about to catch up to him so he killed a good man in an attempt to keep his cover. Insane? Hardly.   more ›
