A car crashed into a tree in front of a home on North Passaic Avenue in Chatham Borough on Thursday afternoon. The accident occurred on a front yard near the road's intersection with Harvard Street. A portion of North Passaic Avenue was closed in both directions because of the crash. Police and fire officials responded to an accident. Police said it was under investigation. Additonal information was not immediately available.

A 21-year-old Chatham bicyclist ignored a stop sign and was struck by a vehicle last week at the intersection of Floral Street and School Avenue, Chatham Township Police said. Shane Prebenda, 21, received a summons after going through a stop sign on School Avenue Sunday, July 15 at about 1:15 p.m., police said. After going through the stop sign, Prebenda was struck by a car driven by Margaret Blackwood, of Chatham Township, who was traveling eastbound on Floral Street, according to police. Prebenda told police he saw the stop sign and failed to stop, and was issued a summons by the investigating officer, police said. The Chatham Borough Police Department issued one summons in a two-car accident that occurred Friday evening. At 7:24 p.m. on Friday, March 9, Patrolman Andrew Chase investigated the two-car accident at the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and Chatham Street, police said. A 2008 Jaguar driven by George Underwood, 71, of Chatham was attempting to turn left from Fairmount Avenue onto Chatham Street, police said. Underwood struck a 2010 Cooper driven by Kathryn West, 48, of Chatham, who was waiting at the stop sign on Chatham Street, according to police. There were no injuries reported and both cars were driven from the scene, police said. Underwood was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.

Chatham Borough Police said they responded to a two-car accident Monday on Fairmount Avenue near Firehouse Plaza. At approximately 11:52 a.m., a 2008 Lincoln driven by Kim June-Il, 67, of New York City, was parked in front of14 Fairmount Ave. when his rear seat passenger opened his door into the lane of traffic, police said. A passing 1995 Toyota diven by Kami Phillips, 21, of Chatham Township was passing by at that moment and struck the open door, according to police. No injuries were reported, no summonses were issued and both cars were driven from the scene, police said.

Chatham Borough Police investigated three car accidents Friday afternoon, according to a press release issued Tuesday. Main Street and Hillside Avenue At 1:18 p.m., Officer Daryle Kelly responded to a motor vehicle accident at Main Street and Hillside Avenue, police said. His investigation revealed that Elisa Paras, 19, of Berkeley Heights was driving a 1996 Jeep on Main Street and attempting to turn onto Hillside Avenue when the light turned red, police said. Paras backed up her car to avoid blocking the intersection, police said. Chatham Borough Police said they issued no summonses in a motor vehicle accident Monday at Main Street and North Hillside Avenue. Patrolman Andrew Chase responded to a two-car accident with injuries at the intersection of Main Street and North Hillside Avenue, police said. His investigation found that Hilary Pinn, 66, of Florham Park, had crashed her 2009 Saturn into the back of another vehicle that was stopped in traffic, police said. The other car was driven by Anja Tiainen, 61, of Long Valley, according to police. Tiainen was taken to Morristown Medical Center by the Chatham Emergency Squad complaining of neck pain, police said. No summonses were issued in the incident, according to police.

Police issued no summonses in a motor vehicle accident in Chatham Borough on Sunday. At 3:23 p.m. Sunday, Patrolman Daniel Walsh responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Watchung Avenue, police said in a statement released Tuesday. Walsh found that a 17-year-old girl from Chatham Township driving a 2004 Toyota was trying to enter Watchung Avenue from a business driveway when she collided with a car traveling on Watchung Avenue, according to police. The second vehicle was driven by Eugenio Mendoza, 53, of Chatham Township, police said. Mendoza was driving east on Watchung Avenue when the Toyota struck him, according to police. A Chatham Borough Police patrolman was tipped off to an alleged drunk driver as he finished responding to a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, according to a statement released Friday. Patrolman Daniel Walsh responded Thursday to a two-car crash on Main Street near Lafayette Avenue at about 2:50 p.m., police said. He found that a 2002 Jaguar driven by Joan Marrin, 59, of Springfield, had stopped to turn left into the CVS parking lot when she was struck from behind, according to the police statement. The car that struck Marrin was a 2011 Volkswagen driven by Katherin Hager, 20, of Berkeley Heights, police said. David , try riding a bike on these roads. Often there is glass, rocks, road kill, nails on the shoulder and sides of the roads.
