Stinky Smell a Result of 150-Pound Controlled Natural Gas Release

Orange-scented masking agent disbursed in areas of Hanover and Florham Park to hide natural gas smell from planned Williams/Transco release.

Something stunk in Florham Park Thursday, but residents should not fear the smelly air. High concentrations of natural gas were released into the air and affected areas in Hanover and Florham Park, and other surrounding towns, as a result of a planned release by Williams/Transco in Livingston, according to Morris County Office of Emergency Management Director Jeffrey Paul. "These high concentrations are creating local issues," Paul said in a message to all Morris County OEM coordinators, police officers, firefighters and CERT teams. "We have been in touch with our partners at [Public Service Electric and Gas] and although this is not a PSE&G issue, they are working with us to resolve the problem." The gas release began around 7:30 a.m. …

If there is ever a problem there, the small town of Roseland will never be able to handle it. The state has its eyes closed in this matter it seems. The overseeing agency has no person there at the site to check what they are doing. I know ,because I asked them that …   more ›

'Everyone's overwhelmed,' said Jeffrey S. Paul, coordinator for the county Office of Emergency Management.

Tropical Storm Sandy knocked out power to about 87 percent of an electric company's customers in Morris County, the Morris County Office of Emergency Management coordinator said Tuesday. Along with the widespread power outages, a "tremendous amount of hazards" exist on roads throughout the county, and officials are encouraging the public to stay home so crews can address issues, including down trees, wires and utility poles, on main thoroughfares, said Jeffrey S. Paul, coordinator for the county OEM. "We did get hit pretty hard," Paul said. "Everyone's doing a great job. Certainly everyone's overwhelmed." Paul said Jersey Central Power & Light had about 170,000 customers in Morris County without power on Tuesday, including more than 20,000…
