DUI Charge for Chatham Twp. Driver

The following arrest information was supplied by the Madison Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

A speeding stop flagged one driver for DUI on the Madison Police Department blotter this week. Tamara Melo, 40, of Chatham Township was charged with driving under the influence on Feb. 8 at 11:02 p.m. Madison Police Sgt. Dennis Lam initially stopped Melo for a speeding violation on Green Avenue. He determined she was allegedly operating her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Melo was taken to headquarters for processing and released  to a friend. She was also issued a summons for speeding. On Feb. 10 at 8:34 a.m. Ptl. James Cavezza arrested 31-year-old Denise Daiuto of Whippany on the strength of a $127 traffic arrest warrant issued by Annandale Municipal Court. Suspended Det. Pleads Guilty for Soliciting Nude Photo of Girl He Believed to be 13

Chatham resident formerly of Madison PD faces a prison sentence of seven years.

A suspended Madison police detective and Chatham resident pleaded guilty Tuesday to soliciting a nude photo from an undercover detective who he believed was a 13-year-old girl, according to a statement from Attorney General Paula T. Dow and Criminal Justice Director Stephen J. Taylor. James N. Haspel, 50, faces a prison sentence of seven years under a plea agreement recommended by the state. He will also register as a sex offender under Megan's Law and will be barred from public employment, including his position of detective with the Madison Borough Police Department. Police: Chatham Woman Allegedly Wrote $2K Worth of Bad Checks to Madison Liquor Store

A Chatham woman was arrested after a two-week investigation revealed she allegedly wrote back checks totaling more than $2,000 to a Madison liquor store, police said. Madison Police Det./Lt. Jerry Mantone arrested 59-year-old Mary Piraneo on May 26 at about 10 a.m. Piraneo was charged with issuing bad checks, a misdemenaor, to Neils Liquor & Deli, 114 Park Ave. Police said a two-week investigation determined Piraneo had allegedly written checks totaling $2,040 over a one-month period from accounts that were closed. Piraneo was processed at police headquarters and taken to Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 bail pending a mandatory court appearance.

Chatham Man Faces Drug Charges by Madison PD

Madison police arrested the 29-year-old Chatham resident.

On Feb. 5 at approximately 1:23 a.m., a patrolman with the Madison Police Department, Patrolman Sean Plumstead, arrested 29-year-old Stephen Quinn of Chatham and charged him with alleged possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Plumstead initially stopped Quinn on Park Avenue for burned-out lights and determined that he was in possession of marijuana. Quinn was transported to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance. Quinn was also issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to maintain lamps on a vehicle.
