Just after the hurricane and before the holidays, downtown stores offer an evening of bargains and elegance.
Tony Britt of the Chatham Downtown Alliance (CDA) has been in Chatham Borough since before Tropical Storm Sandy hit the area, and he knows firsthand what all residents of the Chathams do. "It has been a tough two weeks for all of us," Britt said. As power is restored to town and Chathamites slowly return to normal, Britt and the CDA have organized the 6th Ladies Shopping Night Thursday along Main Street and other downtown borough stores. Lori Ann Medico, owner of Bliss Clothing and Accessories, started the concept of Ladies Night Out in 2009 to help bolster small businesses in Chatham. Semi-annual downtown sale gathered residents, officials, kids in advance of Mothers' Day.
Ladies Night Out Thursday brought together more people than just local business owners. Officials and residents gathered in towntown Chatham Borough to enjoy sales, free gifts and refreshments. Chatham Borough Mayor Bruce Harris cut the ribbon opening the event outside TM Ward at 6 p.m. Thursday, and Council Member Len Resto was in attendance. The owners of Quartet used the event to celebrate their one-year anniversary as a downtown business. Local Girl Scout troops used the event to earn badges and sell gifts for Mothers' Day. Good weather and festive holiday lights welcomed shoppers to downtown Chatham.
The third annual autumn Ladies Shopping Night in downtown Chatham got off to a festive start as women (and some men) swarmed to snatch up some deals. Mayor-elect Bruce Harris and shop owners welcomed the crowd at Bliss for the customary ribbon cutting. Holiday lights brightened the streets as teens, moms and grandmothers checked out the stores that stayed opened until 9 p.m. to help shoppers get started for the holidays. “It’s a chance to get together with the girls and go out for sushi,” said Kelley Carney, a Chatham Borough mom, who added that although she wasn’t quite ready for holiday shopping, the event helped her “get in the mood.” Carney enjoyed shopping with a group of her friends ultimately headed to Mitsuba for a planned evening …
