Sentencing brings closer to murder victim's family, friends, parish.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi, along with family and friends of the Rev. Edward Hinds, held a press conference outside the courtroom in which convicted murderer Jose Feliciano was sentenced to life without parole. Bianchi said the trial was an "angry and disgusting thing. ... It was bad enough he murdered the man, he murdered his reputation afterwards." Feliciano was sentenced Friday after being found guilty of seven counts related to the murder of Hinds, known to his parish as "Father Ed," who was formerly the pastor at St. Patrick Church in Chatham Borough. Feliciano stabbed Hinds 44 times in the evening of Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009. Hinds' body was found the following morning. Hinds' cousin, Daniel Silas Miller, and friends …
Convicted murderer also sentenced to an additional 25 years for robbery, hindering prosecution.
With family and friends of the late Rev. Edward Hinds present, Jose Feliciano was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the murder of the Chatham priest on Friday afternoon. The sentence was given by Morris County Superior Court Judge Thomas V. Manahan after Feliciano, 66, had been found guilty of seven charges by a Morris County Superior Court jury on Dec. 22. Hinds was found stabbed to death in the St. Patrick Church rectory, where he was pastor, on Oct. 23, 2009. Feliciano declined to address the court before sentencing. His attorney, Public Defender Neill Hamilton, asked the judge to merge the sentences, since Feliciano's conviction on felony murder carries a sentence of 30 years to life. Four friends, relatives and …

Robert A. Bianchi said Jose Feliciano will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi said a jury's finding of Jose Feliciano guilty on all counts restores the Rev. Edward Hinds' reputation and brings his killer to justice. "Father Hinds' reputation has been restored resoundingly by how quickly this verdict came in and with a guilty on all charges," Bianchi said in a news conference outside the courthouse on Thursday after the verdict was read. Bianchi thanked his trial partner, David Bruno, Morris County Prosecutor's Office Capt. Jeffrey Paul–who took a statement from Feliciano in which Feliciano confessed to the killing–members of the prosecutor's and sheriff's offices, and Chatham Borough police. Bianchi said police interviews and forensics evidence were used to "obliterate the …
Rev. Hinds' cousin on guilty verdict: 'thankful' Feliciano will not hurt anyone again.
Jose Feliciano was found guilty by a Morris County Superior Court jury Thursday of all charges in the murder of the Rev. Edward Hinds, who Feliciano is convicted of stabbing to death at St. Patrick Church in Chatham. Two of the charges were murder and felony murder. Hinds' second cousin, Daniel Miller, 49, was present throughout the majority of the trial proceedings and said "justice has been served." "It's a shame that this pig was able to take such a precious commodity from our family, from the community," Miller said. Miller said he felt for Feliciano's children at this time, but was hopeful he would "never have the opportunity to hurt anyone else again. ... Words can't describe the damage he tried to do to a good man." Miller's wife, …

Instructions totaling 59 pages were read aloud to the jury Tuesday.
Following summations Monday, the Hon. Thomas V. Manahan outlined the seven charges Jose Feliciano faces in the stabbing death of the Rev. Edward Hinds for the jury Tuesday. Manahan gave his instructions to the jury Tuesday morning and into Tuesday afternoon. In part he read aloud from a 59-page document, which was edited by defense and prosecuting attorneys up until Tuesday morning. After the jury was excused for lunch, Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi objected to the judge's oral instructions, saying they differed from the written instructions contained in the document. Among the seven charges are two murder charges: felony murder and murder. He also faces two counts of robbery charges, unlawful possession of a weapon and …

Cites accused murderer's continued "lies and deceptions" as reasons he is unworthy of the jury's trust.
Editor's note: The following article contains graphic descriptions of an armed attack. It may not be suitable for younger readers. Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi delivered his closing argument to the jury presiding over Jose Feliciano's murder trial Monday afternoon. In his summary, Bianchi reviewed testimony from Feliciano and other witnesses called by both himself and Public Defender Neill Hamilton in the case, and the evidence presented. Bianchi's summation was punctuated by expressions of "Liar" or "Fallacy" after he would compare the accused murderer's testimony to the evidence. Feliciano, he told the jury, is "not worthy of your investment of credibility" after having told so many lies regarding the stabbing death of the…

A trial of over two months is about to come to an end.
Closing arguments in the trial of Jose Feliciano for the Rev. Edward Hinds are scheduled to begin Monday at 9 a.m. The trial began on Oct. 17, nearly two years after Hinds was stabbed 44 times on Oct. 22, 2009. Feliciano confessed to the murder two days later to Capt. Jeffrey Paul of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. Feliciano's attorney Neill Hamilton argued Hinds initiated a sexual relationship with Feliciano shortly after coming to St. Patrick Church in 2003. Feliciano said when he tried to end the relationship, Hinds fired the custodian, leading to a struggle. Feliciano said he "heard voices" while struggling over a knife with the priest. While taking the stand in his own defense, Feliciano testified he was molested by a priest at…
