No Tax Hike Resolution OK'd by Freeholders

Flat tax would be first time since 1998, Freeholder Hank Lyon says.

The recently reshuffled Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders has moved quickly on its first substantial piece of action, passing a resolution on a plan introduced just two weeks ago. Six of the Freeholders approved a resolution to seek a goal of no increase in county taxes for the 2013 budget, according to a press release from Freeholders John Krickus and Hank Lyon. Lyon, the budget committee chairman, presented the resolution to the board, saying “It’s important we give the taxpayers a break. We cannot freeze property taxes every year, but when we can we should freeze or cut property taxes,” according to the release. I think you are right. Especially since the WTBOE's lastest budget contained a 0 percent tax increase, the County could probably learn a thing or two.   more ›

County Tax Freeze Sought by New Freeholder

Washington Township's John Krickus says Freeholders shouldn't have health benefits.

In his first bid for a Morris County Freeholder seat, Washington Township’s John Krickus, along with running mates John Cesaro and David Scapicchio, won a three-year seat on the governing body and was sworn in Friday, Jan. 4. Freeholder Tom Mastrangelo was chosen by his colleagues to be the group’s director for 2013. He replaces William Chegwidden who lost in the June 2012 Primary Election. Krickus plans to get to work immediately and just as quickly stop spending, he said. “My top priorities are a 0-percent increase to operate county government, eliminating health benefits for freeholders as we are part time officials,” Krickus said in an email to Patch. “I fully endorse the goal of freezing county property taxes, possibly for the first …

Okay......?!?!...here's the deal. No tax increase and no health benefits for a part-time job should be the norm. If you can't make it work with all the tax $$$ coming in, we have a real problem folks! I don't know about anyone else out there, but I never heard of health benefits for part time work. Both ideas sound sensible to me. Just my two cents...   more ›
