Primary turnout far lower than expected, candidates say.
Despite a contested primary in Chatham Township on Tuesday, voter turnout was at 17.27 percent, according to Township Clerk Gregory LaConte. According to numbers released from the LaConte's office, 999 Republicans and 272 Democrats voted in Tuesday's primary for a total of 1,271 out of 7,361 registered voters in Chatham Township. Of the four Republican candidates for Chatham Township Committee, 12 votes separate the top two finishers, Bailey Brower, Jr. and Kathy Abbott. Brower and Abbott earned 491 and 479 votes, respectively. Brower and Abbott each had a runningmate in their campaigns for the two available seats on the Township Committee. Jeff Furbish ran with Brower and Laura Ali Nonnenmacher ran with Abbott. Only one vote separates …

The candidate for Township Committee will wait for results at a popular local restaurant.
In a day characterized by low turnout among voters in the first eight hours of polling, Chatham Township Committee candidate Jeff Furbish remains optimistic. "It sounds like a good turnout here in in District 2," Furbish said after voting at Long Hill Chapel late Tuesday afternoon. "We'll know soon enough." Furbish is one of four Republican candidates for two available seats on the committee. He ran jointly with sitting Committee Member Bailey Brower, Jr. No Democrats registered for the race, and independent candidates have until Tuesday to file for the general election in November. Of the four candidates, Furbish is the only one who mentioned the possibility of facing an independent challenger in the general. "We'll see if any …

Polling places, candidates and other information for Primary Day.
Tuesday is Primary Day throughout New Jersey. Before you head out to vote, here are some things you need to know: I am a township resident. Whom can I vote for? Kathy Abbott, Laura Ali Nonnenmacher, Bailey Brower, Jr. and Jeff Furbish are the four Republican candidates running for two available seats on the Chatham Township Committee. No Democratic candidates are running, which means the two candidates with the most votes on Tuesday will sit on the committee beginning next January. Furbish and Bailey are running together, as are Abbott and Ali. Township Mayor Nicole Hagner has her name on the ballot to represent the newly reformed 27th district in the State Assembly. Hagner, a Republican, is running with Lee Holtzman (R-Livingston) for the…

The Township resident is running for a seat on the committee.
When Jeff Furbish moved to Chatham Township in 2003, he and his family wasted no time in getting involved. Furbish started coaching for the Recreation Department, first football, which his son played, and then basketball and baseball as well. Even though his children are no longer involved in recreational sports, he has continued to coach. He joined the Open Space Committee and the Planning Board and balanced those with a job in New York City. His wife got involved too, by joining the Chatham Emergency Squad. Furbish is one of four Republicans running in the contested primary in Chatham Township Tuesday. His running mate, current Committee Member Bailey Brower, Jr., thinks that his experience in the insurance business could be invaluable …

Dear Neighbor: As many of you undoubtedly know, on June 7th Chatham Township Republican voters will have the responsibility of choosing nominees for the two seats that will be contested this fall on the Chatham Township Committee. With the Republican Primary fast approaching, we are proud to endorse the candidacies of Bailey Brower, Jr. and Jeff Furbish to serve with us on your Township Committee. We here in Chatham Township have much to be proud of. In spite of onerous state mandates, the 2010 Township Committee passed a budget that represents a 0% increase in municipal taxes over last year. It is largely due to this fiscal conservatism that Chatham Township has been recognized by several publications as one of the premier communities in …

On June 7th, Chatham Township will be asked to fill two town council Committee seats. Two teams of candidates will be will be looking for our votes and we would like you to consider supporting Bailey Brower and Jeff Furbish for the ticket. Bailey and Jeff bring to the position a strong combination of both practical business experience and seasoned dedication to town municipality and service. Bailey has been a presence in Chatham Township for years whereas his teammate Jeff, would be a positive addition to the political arena. Jeff has raised his family in Chatham and coached town soccer, basketball and football. He served on the Open Space Committee and currently is a member of the Town Planning Board. Professionally, he works for an …

Jeff Furbish is running for Chatham Township Committee. I have personally known Jeff Furbish since my family and I moved to Chatham in 2003. As long as I’ve known Jeff, he has struck me as a person of high integrity and strong leadership abilities. Our sons played football together in Chatham through high school, and Jeff was his coach for many of those years. Jeff was a great coach to the team; he displayed the right balance of discipline and flexibility dealing with the boys. Jeff also acted as an excellent role model for how the boys should act on and off the field, and how to cope with both victory and defeat in a responsible, mature way. Jeff has always been an excellent listener and will hear the views and opinions of all the …

Too bad Furbish didn't get enough votes to surpass his running mate. In my opinion, he surely handles himself in a much more professional and humble manner than Brower or Templin. Unfortunately, Templin's antagonistic approach probably had the effect of getting Brower some sympathy votes.   more ›
