Drunk Driver Crashed, Tracked Down By Motorist, Cops Say

Morristown man allegedly involved in accidents on I-78 before being stopped in Chatham.

A Morristown man believed to be involved in two accidents on Interstate 78 was arrested for drunk driving Wednesday, Chatham Borough Police said. Christopher Grandados, 25, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and reckless driving. Police also determined Granados "was involved in at least two motor vehicle accidents" on I-78 before he entered Chatham, according to a statement released by Kevin O'Shea, of the Chatham Borough Police Department. Cops: Livingston Man Caught Driving Drunk

A Livingston man was charged with driving while intoxicated early Sunday morning, police said. Chatham Township Police Officer Kelly Sretenovic charged Brandin C. Bright, 20, for with driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right and careless driving. Sretenovic stopped a vehicle on River Road after observing it driving erratically shortly before 2 a.m., according to police. After Sretenovic spoke with the driver, identified as Bright, and conducted a brief roadside investigation, she placed Bright under arrest for driving while intoxicated, police said. Bright, who was initially transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital for treatment, was later transferred to the Chatham Township Police Headquarters for processing, according to …

Since the driver BAC was over the legal limit (0.08%), the offcer can not charge under the under age drinking motor vehicle charge since the driver was legally drunk. Now for the underage criminal offense, the state law applies to under age drinking on public property only. Underage Mass. Driver Charged with DWI

Chatham Borough Police said they arrested a Massachusetts driver in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 1. At 5:39 a.m. on April 1, Patrolman Andrew Chase responded to Main Street near North Passaic Avenue on a report of a driver who fell asleep at the wheel, police said. Chase found a 2008 Ford stopped at the intersection with the driver apparently asleep, according to police. The driver, Brett A. Chasnov, 20, of Plymouth, Mass., showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, police said. A field sobriety test was issued and upon its completion, Chasnov was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated, according to police. Newark Woman Arrested for Alleged Drunk Driving

The Chatham Township Police Department arrested a Newark woman Saturday for allegedly driving while intoxicated along Shunpike Road. Officer Kelly Sretenovic stopped a vehicle on Shunpike Road at 3:17 a.m. Saturday for a speeding violation, according to police. A subsequent roadside investigation by Sretenovic determined the driver, Iesha Clinton, 30, of Newark was operating her vehicle while intoxicated, police said. Clinton was placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters and processed, according to police. She was later released to a friend on her own recognizance, police said. Clinton is shceduled to appear in municipal court on Jan. 24, according to police.

Boro Police Respond to 3 Crashes in 3 Days

Chatham Borough Police said they responded to three car accidents between Friday and Sunday, one involving a driver under the influence of alcohol. At 5:28 p.m. Friday, patrols responded to the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Kings Road on a report of a two-car crash, according to a statement by police. Patrolman Brian Maher determined that a 2009 Lexus driven by Stephen Doherty, 52, of Chatham Township, was attempting to turn right from Kings Road onto Lafayette Avenue, police said. Doherty struck a 2010 Honda driven by Richard Connor, 52, of Chatham Borough, who was traveling north on Lafayette Avenue, according to police. Based on observations at the scene, Doherty was arrested for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, …

Borough Police Arrest Two for Alleged DWI

Chatham Borough Police arrested two men in two separate incidents during the week of Thanksgiving for allegedly driving while intoxicated. On Wednesday, Nov. 23, Patrolman Daniel Walsh was off duty and driving to work on Route 24 when he observed a pick-up truck weaving across both lanes of traffic, making it difficult for vehicles to pass, police said. According to a statement released this week, Walsh followed the truck and noticed the front right tire was flat and riding on its rim. Walsh contacted Patrolman Daryle Kelly, who was on duty, and Walsh waited on Route 24 for the truck to pass, police said. The truck was stopped and the driver was identified as Jason Karpisnki, 24, of New Povidence, according to police.  Karpinski appeared …

Berkeley Heights Man Arrested after Accident

Chatham Borough Police said they arrested a man from Berkeley Heights during the early morning hours Monday. At approximately 12:09 a.m. Monday, Patrolmen Daryle Kelly and Richard Jaremba responded to a one-car crash on Main Street and Fairmount Avenue, police said. The officers found a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder had crashed into a wall at Rotary Park, according to a police statement released Monday. The driver, John Sommese, 45, of Berkeley Heights, told police he thought he was on Springfield Avenue in Berkeley Heights, police said, but in fact he was on Fairmount Avenue. According to police, Sommese drove through the intersection at Fairmount Avenue and Main Street, drove over the curb, through some bushes and struck a wooden fence before …

Police Officer Tipped Off to Alleged Drunk Driver

A Chatham Borough Police patrolman was tipped off to an alleged drunk driver as he finished responding to a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, according to a statement released Friday. Patrolman Daniel Walsh responded Thursday to a two-car crash on Main Street near Lafayette Avenue at about 2:50 p.m., police said. He found that a 2002 Jaguar driven by Joan Marrin, 59, of Springfield, had stopped to turn left into the CVS parking lot when she was struck from behind, according to the police statement. The car that struck Marrin was a 2011 Volkswagen driven by Katherin Hager, 20, of Berkeley Heights, police said. There were no injuries, both vehicles were towed from the scene and Hager was issued a summons for careless driving, according to …

Police: Township Teen Causes Accident at Fairmount & Southern

Chatham Township Police arrested Mia Flannery, 18, of Chatham Township, for allegedly driving while intoxiced after she was involved in a motor vehicle accident Tuesday, according to a statement released Friday. While on patrol, Patrolman David Schaffer came across a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and Southern Boulevard on Tuesday, police said. Two vehicles were involved in the accident and had sustained heavy front end damage and fluid spills, police said. During the course his investigation, Schaffer detected the odor of alcohol on Flannery's breath, police said. Flannery was one of the drivers involved in the accident. Township Police Arrest 2 for Allegedly Driving While Intoxicated

The two men arrested are from New Providence and Hopatcong.

Township police arrested two men in separate incidents last Friday for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Patrolman Brad Hayworth stopped a vehicle on River Road after he saw an occupant throw a lit cigarette from the moving vehicle at approximately 1:21 a.m. Friday, according to a police statement released Thursday. After speaking with the driver, who was identified as Hans Ammitzboll, 38, of New Providence, Hayworth placed Ammitzboll under arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated, police said. He was also charged with throwing an object from a moving vehicle, according to police.
