Budding Photographers Urged to 'Explore Chatham'

Chatham's network of nature trails are holding a photo competition to raise awareness and utility.

Former Chatham Borough Mayor Dick Plambeck has presented a new photo contest for Explore Chatham, the borough's network of walking trails. "We talked about doing a photography contest last year" when Explore Chatham was first unveiled, Plambeck said, but now the group has had a chance to "think about it in detail" and come up with a set of rules. "When we created the Explore Chatham website last year," Plambeck said, "part of the purpose was to educate people as well as to encourage them to get out and enjoy some healthy outdoor exercise. This photo contest really expands on that website purpose, and it also provides opportunity to photographers to share their work and inspire others." Still, he said, "it's really to have some fun." Ex-Mayor Wants Residents to 'Explore Chatham'

Dick Plambeck and two summer interns developed a new program with walking paths through the borough.

Former Chatham Borough Mayor Dick Plambeck and two of the borough's summer interns, Andrew Holloway and Charles Ross, presented a new web-based walking initiative to the Chatham Borough Council Monday. Plambeck, a member of the borough's Environmental Commission, said it was the commission's vision to "make a web-based series of maps that would encourage people to walk around Chatham Borough and learn about their community while getting healthy exercise." The trails and narratives will soon be available on the Chatham Borough website under the "Living in Chatham" section. Using current trails, many of which were created and maintained by local Boy Scout troops, Holloway and Ross worked with the Geographic Informations Systems (GIS) staff …
