Leto, McCutcheon Lead Girls Lacrosse to Title

The girls lacrosse team is once again the Group II champion.

With only one senior getting regular playing time, this could have been a rebuilding year for the Chatham High School girls lacrosse team. Instead, it's a championship one. Chatham defeated Rumson-Fair Haven at Robbinsville High School on Thursday, 16-8, to win the Group II title for the second year in a row. "I was concerned about how young we were coming into the season," Chatham head coach Deb Marriott said. "The girls just worked so hard. The main thing is they wanted it like nothing else." It didn't hurt that the one senior on the field was Cat McCutcheon, who scored two goals in the Group II final. "I stepped up as a senior to be a leader, but everyone on the field is a leader," McCutcheon said. "Everyone is coming up big." Chatham …

Fazio Dominates as Chatham Moves On

Momentum started by Davies sisters, then picked up by Fazio leads to a victory for the Cougars.

It was all Cougars on Thursday afternoon at Chatham Middle School. The Chatham High School softball team defeated Somerville High School 10-0 to move on to the semifinals of the North 2, Group III sectional tournament. The win was a true team effort, highlighted by the complete-game shutout thrown by pitcher Amanda Fazio. "I just had a good pitching day on the mound today, and the hitting was just something on top [of that]," Fazio said. The victory moves third-seeded Chatham (18-5) into the sectional semifinals, where it will travel to face No. 2 South Plainfield on Tuesday. The Cougars struck early as Kelsey Davies led off the first inning with a bunt that the Somerville infield couldn’t handle. Davies made it safely to third thanks to …

Slow Start Hampers Chatham in Softball Final

Cougars unable to overcome early five-run deficit as Pequannock wins third straight county title.

The Chatham High School softball team lost to Pequannock 5-1 Thursday night in the Morris County Tournament championship at Roxbury. Chatham fell behind early as starting pitcher Amanda Fazio and company saw the Panthers, winners of the past three Morris County tournaments, capitalize on Chatham fielding miscues and scored  five runs in the first two innings. “We practice all week on playing deep, because we felt like we got beat by the long ball the last game,” Chatham head coach Alexis Davies said. “And then they got a couple of little short balls in. I think our adrenaline was running a little bit too high and we bobbled them and gave them an extra base here and there.” Trailing 5-0, the Cougar offense struggled to get going against …

Cougars Come From Behind To Beat Kinnelon

Pyhel scores a hat trick to help Chatham defeat Kinnelon.

Once again the Chatham Cougars ice hockey team came from a behind to win their game Saturday, beating the Kinnelon Colts 4-3. Senior forward Jake Pyhel completed another hat trick to help propel the Cougars to victory. “It was a good game, we played hard and came back to earn a victory. Coach Cohen told us to capitalize on our chances and keep pushing and pushing,” Pyhel said.  Kinnelon got off to a quick lead as Brian Gnad scored four minutes into the game.  Kyle Verblaau extended the lead when he received a beautiful pass from Hunter Ledwith and buried the puck behind Chatham’s goalie Jordan Boles.
