Twp. Fire Department Accepting Christmas Trees

Chatham Disposal will collect trees in a curbside collection on Jan. 12.

Borough FD to Collect Christmas Trees

Drying trees present a fire hazard, chief says.

In the last tradition of the holiday season, the Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department will collect Christmas trees from borough residents Sunday morning. In previous years, the fire department has collected trees each year and held a bonfire, open to members of the community. After a 2009 Vineland bonfire resulted in injuries for one firefighter, the state Forest Fire Service Division has restricted bonfire permits. "The classic bonfire is now a thing of the past due to strict state and environmental rules and regulations. It is no longer possible to get the required permit due to enforcement of the open burn policies and [state] regulations," said Fire Chief Peter Glogolich. In future years the Chatham Borough Department of Public …
