If you're looking for something to do over spring break, it's the perfect time to work out a training program for the annual Chatham Turkey Trot. The trot enters its fifth year this year, and has grown each year. For last year's race Chatham Township Mayor Hagner declared it “Chatham Turkey Trot Day," and Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen sent his regards for a successful race. The 2012 race included 435 runners and raised a total of $14,300 for the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Diabetes Research Institute. Dear Editor: On behalf of The Chatham Turkey Trot I am pleased to report that the 4th Annual Chatham Turkey Trot, which was held this past Thanksgiving Day in the Highlands section of Chatham Township, was our most successful race ever. The event attracted 435 runners and raised $14,300, which will benefit the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Diabetes Research Institute. It was only fitting that Chatham Township Mayor Hagner declared it “Chatham Turkey Trot Day” and for Congressman Frelinghuysen to personally send his regards for a successful race. The race continues to grow each and every year as the Chatham community comes together to give thanks for all that we have and to raise funds for those dedicated to protecting…

Curt Ritter, president of the Chatham Turkey Trot, said 435 runners participated in this year's Turkey Trot and raised $14,300 in charity funds. "This was by far our most successful race ever," Ritter said, adding these numbers are far greater than the participation and donations in 2011. In 2010, 170 runners raised $3,500. Money raised will be donated to the Chatham Township Fire Department and the Diabetes Research Institute.
