Sullivan Wins Seat on Township Committee

Republican candidate won by about 71 percent of the vote.

Republican Kevin Sullivan will join the Chatham Township Committee for a three-year term starting in January. Township Administrator Thomas E. Ciccarone said Sullivan took in 2,968 votes to Democratic candidate Richard Erich Templin's 1,194 votes. Sullivan's margin of victory is about 71 percent. Sullivan declined to comment after the results came in. Tom Basta, the chairman of the Chatham Township Republican Committee, said he was "very pleased at the results of the elections ... It feels so good that so many people, despite the difficulties of the storm, came out and supported our candidate." Ciccarone also said about 200 ballots were cast for write-in candidates. Sandy Makes For Crowded but Organized Elections

Despite the consolidation of polling places in Chatham Township, lines were short and voters said poll workers were efficient.

Chatham Township voters described the polls at the Green Village Fire Department as organized and with short or no lines Tuesday morning Brian George, who usually votes at Corpus Christi Church, said depsite the consolidation of five polling places into one location, the poll workers were "very efficient" and "well-organized." Township Clerk Greg LaConte said he had reports of congestion at the two polling places, which he said was not surprising since each polling place had more than double the usual number of districts to manage.
