'It Gets Through Buckner:' Old Foes Sign Autographs for Local Fans

Mookie Wilson and Bill Buckner are forever linked by their roles in the 1986 World Series.

It’s one of those “Do you remember where you were?” moments for Mets fans when one of the most infamous errors in baseball history propelled New York to victory in the World Series. The players involved in the 1986, World Series game six play — Mets left fielder Mookie Wilson and Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner — signed autographs for fans Sunday at the Legends Gallery in Chatham. I was one of those lucky 55,078 fans who saw the play live in Shea Stadium Oct. 25, 1986, as the Mets came back from 5-3 down with two outs and no runners on in the 10th inning. World Series Players to Make Local Appearance

Mookie Wilson and Bill Buckner of the 1986 Mets and Red Sox, who played against each other in the World Series, will sign autographs on Feb. 10.

Legends Gallery will host two retired players from the 1986 World Series, Red Sox player Bill Buckner and Mets player Mookie Wilson, for an autograph signing on Sunday, Feb. 10. Wilson helped lead the Mets to their 1986 World Series victory in seven games against the Boston Red Sox. But for Mets fans, the real victory was on Oct. 25, Game Six of the World Series that year. "In the bottom of the 10th inning, the Sox were on top, 5 to 3," Legends owner Randy Dembo said, before the Mets were able to tie it up 5-5. "Mookie Wilson stepped up to the plate, with a full count.
