The Chatham Emergency Squad, which is entirely made up of volunteers, responds to 911 medical emergency calls within the borough and township. It has been doing so for 65 years. It now responds to about 1,000 calls per year.

The squad's annual budget is $200,000, which the squad accumulates from local donations and municipal contributions from the township and borough.

Anyone ages 18 and up who is no longer in high school can volunteer as an EMT for the squad, provided they pass EMT and CPR courses. Teenagers who are at least 16 years old and enrolled in good standing in high school can become a part of the squad's cadet program.

The squad has 82 volunteer members and owns three ambulances.
