The Chatham Borough Police Department is one of two nationally accredited law enforcement agencies in Morris County, which means the department must fulfill a set of rigorous standards set forth by the Commission on Law Enforcement Accreditation. It received its accreditation in 2008, and is one of seven police agencies statewide to be nationally accredited.
A plaque displaying the honor is prominently displayed outside the main door to the police department.
The department runs DARE, traffic safety, neighborhood safety and Internet safety programs. It also issues firearm permits.
Phillip J. Crosson is the acting police chief.
