Turkey Trots, Council Meeting This Week

A look at the week ahead in the Chathams.

Hanukkah: Wednesday is the first night of the holiday. The Chathams' Menorah Lighting by Chabad of SE Morris County is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at Firehouse Plaza, Fairmount Ave., Chatham. The lighting will be followed by latkes and treats in the gazebo.

Turkey Trots: The fifth annual Chatham Turkey Trot is set for Thanksgiving morning.

The event, which includes a 1 mile family fun run and 5K race, benefits the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Diabetes Research Institute.

The race starts at the corner of Seminole Way and Van Houton Avenue in Chatham Township. Participants can register and pay online at TheChathamTurkeyTrot.org.

  •    8:00 AM – Race Day Registration/warm-ups
  • ~ 8:30 AM – 1 Mile Family Fun Run
  • ~ 9:00 AM – Program/National Anthem - 5K Race follows
  • ~ 9:50 AM – Award ceremony follows the conclusion of the race

2nd Annual Thanksgiving “Trot the Manor” Turkey Trot: This run takes participants through the manor section of Chatham on Thursday, with a one mile fun run at 8:30 a.m.  a 5K run at 9 a.m.

Proceeds benefit the Chatham Fire Department.

Council Meeting: The Chatham Borough Council is scheduled to meet 7:30 p.m. Monday in the municipal building.

Hearings on an ordinance that would add an exception for porticos to Chatham's building regulations, and on an ordinance amending Chatham's parking laws are scheduled.

An introduction of a 2014 salary ordinance also is on the agenda.

A resolution authorizing a shared services agreement with the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority for recycling pickup, which the resolution says offers comparable services at a substantial cost savings, is up for vote.

Another resolution to have all state-mandate Uniform Construction Code services performed by Madison, which currently handles some of Chatham's services, also is on the agenda.

There also is expected to be discussion of an electric vehicle charging station grant for the Chatham Train Station.
