Local Elections, Lot Sale, Wine Store Opening This Week

Schools closed Thursday, Friday for NJEA convention.

Election: Borough and township races are uncontested in Tuesday's election. Polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Chatham Borough council members James Collander and Victoria Fife are running for re-election unopposed. The Republicans are on a ticket with first-time candidate Alida Kass, who is running unopposed for the remainder of Len Resto's unexpired term.

In Chatham Township, two seats are up for vote. Robert Gallop is running for re-election to the Township Committee. Curt Ritter is seeking the other open seat on the governing body. Mayor Nicole Hagner did not seek re-election.

While approximately 500 school districts have moved their school elections to November, the School District of the Chathams is one of 40 districts that has not.

'Puss in Boots' Auditions: Chatham Community Players’ Fantasy Theater, the Theater for Young Audiences branch of CCP, is holding auditions for “Puss In Boots" 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at The Chatham Playhouse, 23 North Passaic Ave., Chatham.

Lot Sale: Chatham Borough is accepting sealed bids Wednesday for a wooded, 0.2-acre lot on Watchung Avenue. The lot is for sale to the highest bidder, with the minimum bid set at $275,000.

Officials determined the lot no longer is needed for public use. Bids will be accepted by the borough clerk 10 a.m. Wednesday in Council Chambers at Borough Hall, 54 Fairmount Ave., according to a notice about the sale on the borough website (PDF).

The property comes with a bulk variance to permit a front yard setback of 19 feet along Girard Avenue where 30 feet is required.
