Residents of Chatham Borough, Chatham Township, Madison and Springfield are invited to participate in a 24-week exercise class designed to strengthen bones.
The Project Healthy Bones preventive osteoporosis exercise class for men and women scheduled to start in January.
Trained peer leaders will instruct classes in how to use weights and do balance and flexibility exercises, while improving health, strength and preventing bone loss, according to an announcement for the event.Classes are Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Senior Center in Chatham Township, 58 Meyersville Road, beginning with an introductory session Jan. 29.
All people who wish to come to the classes must first sign up by calling the Madison Health Department at 973-593-3079 ext. 1 or 2 by Jan. 24. Class size is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
Physician permission will be necessary to participate; forms for this purpose will be sent upon acceptance to the course. Those who register should be able to attend most classes.
Project Healthy Bones is sponsored by the Health Departments and Senior Centers of the host communities, administered by the Arthritis Center of Morristown Medical Center and coordinated by the Madison Health Department and NORWESCAP/RSVP of Morris County.
