Counseling Center Wants to Know Top Community Issues

Project Community Pride launches online survey as part of strategic planning process.

A local non-profit counseling organization that has served Chatham Borough, Madison and Florham Park for 37 years is asking residents to take a short, online survey as part of its long-term planning process.

Officials said the survey will help Project Community Pride staff continue to identify the evolving needs of youth and families.

Project Community Pride began as a partnership with local law enforcement agencies to counsel at-risk youths and their families, and eventually expanded into a full-service counseling center.

The center collaborates with local school districts to aid children, adolescents, and families through mental and emotional health issues including depression, anxiety, divorce and peer pressure.

"Moving forward, Project Community Pride is looking to build a long-term sustainable structure," an announcement about the survey says. "For nearly 40 years, the organization has evolved to meet the growing and changing needs of youth in our community. A strategic planning committee of Madison, Chatham, and Florham Park residents, Board of Education representatives, and elected government officials is already at work to plan the program’s next steps. The committee needs your help and welcomes feedback from the community. Please take a few moments to complete the survey by clicking on the link below.

Among the questions, the survey asks how familiar people are with the program, and asks people to identify the five most pressing issues facing the community, such as maintaining core infrastructure including roads and utilities, dealing with rising property taxes, and meeting the mental health care needs of our children, teens and families.

The survey also notes that Project Community Pride provides crisis assessment and emergency intervention to help prevent tragedies such as the Newtown, Conn., shooting, or to help a community recover from such an incident.
