Track Teams Finish 6th in State Sectionals

Zachariades sets new school record in 400-meter.

The boys and girls track teams finished in sixth place at the NJSIAA North II, Group 2 sectionals Thursday.

The boys team finished with 16 points. Anthony Malatesta finished first in the 3200-meter with a time of 9:52, and fourth in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:31.

Charlie Zachariades set the 400-meter school record with a 53.32 run. The 4-X-400 team of Zachariades, Aaron Young, Pierre Pais and Josh Blake finished sixth in 3:41. These athletes qualify for the Group 2 meet next week.

Other great performances were:

  • Chris Walczyk in the shot put: 12th with a toss of 37'11.5" 
  • Corey Black in the 800: 7th in 2:04  
  • Parth Shah in the 3200: 9th in 10:27  
  • Fred Heller in the 1600: in 4:42 with Dominic Vernazza at 4:53.

  • The girls basketball team defeated Madison 34-16.
  • The JV basketball team defeated Madison 48-11.
  • The JV ice hockey team defeated Morristown-Beard 3-2.

  • Ice hockey vs. Robbinsville at the Iceland Rink at 6 p.m.

The following games are scheduled for Saturday, depending on weather and facility condition and availability:

  • Bowling at NJSIAA North II Sectionals  at Jersey Lanes at 9 a.m.
  • Wrestling at Summit against Orange/Pingry at 10 a.m.
  • Girls basketball takes on Pequannock at MCSSADA Tournament at Morris Knolls, 4:30 p.m.*
  • Boys basketball takes on Madison at MCSSADA Tournament at Randolph at 5:30 p.m.*
  • Boys JV basketball takes on Hanover Park at Delbarton - Clark Gym at 11 a.m.

The following games are scheduled for Sunday, depending on weather and facility condition and availability:

  • Girls JV Basketball vs. Jefferson at Kinnelon at noon.


* If MCSSADA games are postponed due to weather, games will be played on Sunday
