Softball Coach: 2011 Team Might Be Best in 15 Years

Coming off 23-7 season, Cougars have high expectations this spring.

The Chatham High softball team went 23-7 in 2010 and is looking forward to surpassing last year's accomplishments.

With its entire 2010 infield returning the Chatham Girls Softball team is set for success. With chemistry and experience on its side the captains hope to surpass last year’s achievements.

Last Season's Results

Last season the Cougars boasted a 23-7 record and were Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference-Independence Division undefeated champions.

Keep Your Eye On

  • Amanda Fazio, Pitcher (Jr.)—One of the counties top pitchers in 2010 Fazio will only be stronger this season. Emerging as a team leader Fazio poses a threat at both the mound and at the plate.
  • Kelly Winans, First Base (Jr.)—Winans proved to be a solid and consistent defensive wall for the Cougars in 2010, recording zero errors at first base.

They'll Miss

  • Caroline Murphy, Right Field—Murphy was a four year member of the softball team and was most known for her heavy hits and remaining cool under pressure. A standout athlete Murphy now attends Gettysburg College where she plays on the basketball team.
  • Alex St. Romaine, Catcher—The heart and soul of the 2010 team, St. Romaine acted as the team leader from the first day of the season to the last, despite a season ending injury mid-season. St. Romain finished her career leading every significant offensive statistic in Chatham. Her career totals included 119 hits, a .390 batting average, 12 home runs, 96 runs scored and 63 runs batted in. She also had 82 stolen bases in 84 attempts. She was first team all-conference, first-team all county and first-team all area her sophomore, junior and senior years. St. Romaine’s graduation is Dartmouth College Softball Team’s gain.
