Saluzzi's Chatham Patch Triple Play Makes Headlines

The Chatham Patch first grade player turned two triple plays Friday.

We know we already reported on Chatham Patch first grader Matthew Saluzzi turning two unassisted triple plays in one weekend. Now we've got photos and video to prove it.

It's rare for a team to turn a triple play. It's even rarer for someone to turn an unassisted triple play. But doing it twice on back-to-back days is nearly unheard of. In Major League Baseball's modern era, for example, there have only been 15 triple plays, and no one has ever turned two in a career.

Matthew's mother, Marlena Saluzzi, took a video of the first triple play, which happened Friday. The second took place Saturday.

The triple plays were a big highlight for the Chatham Patch Bulldogs, which conclude their season Saturday at 9 a.m. at Southern Boulevard Elementary. They also have a game today.

"The Chatham Patch Bulldogs have continued to improve as a team each game," said Head Coach Dan Marino in an email. He thanked the team's 11 players and their parents, saying they "have made coaching the team this season a ton of fun."
