Peters TD Highlight of Chatham Football Loss

Mendham hangs on for Homecoming victory.

The Chatham High School football team lost to Mendham 12-7 on the road Saturday afternoon.

1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final Chatham (0-7) 0 0 0 7 7 Mendham (1-6) 0 0 12 0 12

Neither team was able to do much offensively in the first half which ended in a scoreless tie. Mistakes on offense hurt the Minutemen in the first half as two drives were thwarted by offensive penalties.

Early in the third quarter, Mendham defensive back Joe Beneducci recovered a Vincent Ziccolella fumble and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. Ziccolella was injured on the play and did not return. The point after attempt failed and Mendham lead 6-0.

The quick turn of events gave the Minutemen some confidence as they were able to score on their next possession as Cole Perkins added to the lead with a 16-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion attempt was
stopped just short of the goal line and Mendham had a 12-0 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Chatham got a big return from Thomas Guida to the Mendham 45 and the Cougars were able to put together an 11-play, 45-yard drive capped off by a 5-yard touchdown pass from Thomas Guida to Chris Peters.

With the score 12-7, Chatham had one more chance but the Minutemen defense was able to stop the Cougars and the Minutemen offense ran out the clock.

It's too bad we don't play a clothing store each week. Guida could drive through it and score every time.

I'll leave that to the team.

How could a team go from making the semi finals to an 0-10 season? I'm not buying the step up in class nonsense. All the talent must have graduated or there's a serious coaching issue. I heard in the Bernards playoff win last season the QB was calling his own plays in the huddle the 2nd half, that says volumes. It's sad to see a program built up by outstanding volunteer Rec coaches such as Ahsler, Failla, Brown, Wood, Lynch, Brask and Pascarella to name a few. I fear for our younger players and the program in general. Turn it around Chatham or maybe the old guard should return to right the ship. Lame Cougar Fan.

The Football Coach has done nothing right. Last year, he managed making an extremely talented bunch to settle for a big loss against Madison by calling his xxxxxx audibles from the sideline and look what happend this year! This Coach does not know Football and that is for sure.
