New Coach, Returning Players on Girls Soccer Team
The girls soccer team comes off the 2010 season with a 12-6-2 record and a host of returning players.
The Chatham High School girls soccer team is primed to make a big splash this season. Although the team has a new leader—head coach Chris Calveley has taken over for former coach Tracey Blanchard—continuity throughout the roster has everyone anticipating big things this season.
The Cougars, who finished 2010 with a 12-6-2 record, saw their season end with a double overtime loss to second seeded Somerville in the North Jersey Section 2, Group III state tournament quarterfinals.
Working from a 4-4-2 base formation, Calveley's focus is keeping the ball on the ground and using the fields' width, along with his teams’ speed, to improve each possession.

COACH’S TAKE:
“I’m excited. It’s a really good group, they’ve got really good chemistry so far. We’ve got a lot of experience, eight seniors this year mixed in with a lot of our younger talent, and it's really promising to see.” – Coach Caveley
THEY SAID IT:
“We’ve only lost two starters and we’ve brought on a few really good younger players, so I feel really confident that we should be really strong. We bring back a lot of experience and it should be a really good year.” – Berntsen
“I think we have a great, great shot. A lot of girls who were on the team last year have really stepped up this year, [and look] more confident on the field. We didn’t lose that many players and I think our top players are at their prime.” – Hyde
