Hockey Team Defeats Rival Summit

Also, the basketball teams prepare for the Cougar Classic.

The Christmas weekend means the Cougar Classic starts soon. The boys and girls basketball teams host local teams for the tournament, and admission fees go to benefit a local charity.

On Friday:

  • The ice hockey team defeated Summit 2-1 at Union Sports Arena. Trip Burke scored unassisted in the ninth minute of the second period, and again five minutes into the third period. Goalie C.J. Albanese made 30 saves.
  • The wrestling team competed againt Millburn in the Sachsel Cup (score not reported.)

  • The ice hockey team plays West Essex at Skylands Ice World at 11:30 a.m. Transport leaves at 9:30 a.m.


The boys indoor track team competed in the marathon at Drew University on Thursday. Charlie Zachariades broke the old school record set by Lachlan Davis in 2009 of 38.53 in the 300-meter race. Anthony Malatesta ran the 3200-meter race in 9:55, and also placed fourth in the 1000-meter race with a time of 2:43. In shuttle hurdles, Zachariades, Pat Lei, Jake Budlow and Carson Burns won sixth place medals.

There will be a meeting for all girls interested in playing lacrosse on Jan. 4 at 2:45 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. All those interested in playing in 2012 should attend. Pre-season workouts, preliminary schedules and spirit wear order forms will be distributed. If unable to attend, please contact Head Coach Deb Marriott.

The Booster Club next meets on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Chatham High Media Center.
