Girls Swim Team Wins 4th County Championship

Team broke records in fourth straight county title.

The girls swim team won its fourth straight Morris County Championship on Saturday.

The girls team earned 295 points, more than 100 points ahead of Kinnelon High School, which finished second in the championship. Earlier this season, Kinnelon lost to Chatham in a dual meet by only four points.

The team broke two county records in both freestyle relays:

  • Chatham now holds the county record in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a town of 1:51:20. The prevoius record was held by Mountain Lakes with a time of 1:52:79, set in 2011.
  • Chatham now holds the county record in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 3:59:15. The previous record was also held by Chatham with a time of 4:02:62, set in 2011.

Seniors Julia Harrigan and Taryn McLaughlin and sophomores Regan Kology and Jess Gorham swam both relays and broke the records.

  • Regan Kology, 400-meter freestyle, 4:27:43.
  • Jess Gorham, 100-meter backstroke, 1:05:55
  • Kara Miller Radest, 100-meter butterfly, 1:05:88. This time is a personal best and a new school record.

Making MOC times were:

  • Taryn McLaughlin, 200-meter freestyle, 2:10:00
  • Taryn McLaughlin, 100-meter butterfly, 1:06:84
  • Jess Gorham, 50-meter freestyle, 27:36
  • Kara Miller Radest, 100-meter butterfly, 1:05:88

On Friday:

  • The JV ice hockey team tied Summit 2-2.

On Saturday:

  • The boys swim team placed second in the Morris County Championships with 182.5 points. The team placed fourth in the medley relay and third in the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle relays. Brendan Miller-Radest made a county time in the 400-meter freestyle in 4:15:99.
  • The boys JV basketball team defeated Montville 63-55 in the Morris County Tournament.
  • The wrestling team defeated Morris Catholic 55-18.
  • The ice hockey team defeated Middletown North 2-1.
  • The girls basketball team defeated Roxbury 57-37 in the Morris County Tournament.
  • The boys basketball team defeated West Morris Central in the Morris County Tournament 67-42.

The fencing team competes against Morris Hills at at 6 p.m.
