Girls Soccer Beats Summit, Football Falls

How did your favorite sports teams from Chatham High School do this weekend?

The football team fell to Montville in a 14-13 finish Friday. Junior quarterback Thomas Guida scored first, with an 84-yd. run in the first quarter which led to a 7-0 lead for Chatham. He scored his second touchdown of the game on a 6-yd. run in the second quarter to provide Chatham with a 13-7 advantage. Montville senior Parker Meytrott ran 20 times for 81 yds. and two touchdowns which led Montville to victory.

The girls soccer team fell to Parsippany Hills Friday, but turned it around to defeat Summit Saturday. Kelsey Burke, Emily Hoffman, and Emily Walczyk all scored goals, while Lina Proska had two assists and Kara McMahon had one assist. Casey Madura had three saves and Morgan Maltby 12 saves combined for the shutout.

The boys soccer team fell to Parsippany Hills Friday. Sebastian Gallo of Par Hills scored on a restart in the first half and held off numerous chances from the Cougars in the opening game of the season.

The girls volleyball team fell to Morristown in the opening game of the season with scores of 25-11 and 25-8. The Cougars look to rebound on Monday against Vernon.

The girls tennis team defeated Morrsitown 5-0, bringing their season record thus far to 2-0. Earning victories at their respective positions were: 

First Singles- Emily Srocynski

First Doubles - Julia Edgar and Ashley Perselay
Second Doubles - Katie Howard-Johnson and Jess Sullivan

The boys cross country team competed in the Randolph Invitational on Friday. The varsity team finished in fourth place with 122 points. Dominic Vernazza finished fifth with a time of 16:37.

The girls cross country team finished second of 11 teams in the B division at the Randolph Invitational. Chatham's average team time for the 5k course was 21:57 and scored 70 points behind only Morris Hills. The seven athletes who competed for the team were:

The JV girls soccer team raised their record to 2 - 0 on the season with a  1-0 victory. Lindsey Carson slid a beautiful ball from Megan Guenther into the lower right corner for the game wither with 10 minutes left in the second half. Defensively, Melanie Muir, Kelsey Terry and Kelly Moore shut down the Summit attack. Caroline Viscovich made five saves for the shut out.

The JV girls cross country team placed seventh out of 16 teams (169 total girls) in a combined division race. Their average time for the 5k race was 24:35.87. The seven girls who competed in JV were:

The JV boys cross country team finished third in the Randolph Invitational Friday with 67 points. The top runner was Will Mitchell, who finished in ninth place with a time of 19:54.5

• Field hockey team takes on West Morris Central at Haas Field at 4 p.m.
• The volleyball team travels to Vernon Township High School for a 4 p.m. game.
• The JV football team hosts Montville High School at Cougar Field at 4 p.m.
• The JV field hockey team hosts West Morris Central at Haas Field at 5:30 p.m.
• The JV volleyball team travels to Vernon Township High for a 5:30 p.m. game.
