Girls, Boys Basketball Teams Move On in States

Both teams were victorious in first round of state tournaments Monday.

The boys and girls basketball teams each won their respective games Monday in the first round of state tournaments.

The girls basketball team defeated Newark East Side 86-24. The team pulled ahead early, with 30 points at the end of the first quarter to Newark East Side's 6, and the Cougars continued to dominate the court for the rest of the game. Amanda Berntsen led scoring with 30 points, including four 3-pointers and two free throws. Lauren Winschuh and Caroline McCann scored 11 and 8 points, respectively.

The boys basketball team defeated Nutley 60-47.

The boys and girls now move on to the second round on Wednesday, with both games to be played at Chatham High.

  • The girls basketball team takes on Mendham High School at 5 p.m.
  • The boys basketball team takes on Newark East Side at 7 p.m.

The next meeting of the Chatham High Booster Club is at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March in the Media Center.
