Field Hockey Defeats Morristown-Beard in MCT

Football team falls to Lenape Valley.

How did your favorite sports teams do this weekend?

On Thursday:

  • Girls tennis defeated Plainfield 5-0 in the NJSIAA Tournament in Chatham. Kelsey Perselay won the first round of the state singles, then fell to a top-seeded player. In doubles, Caroline McCann and Kendall Contri won their first round.
  • Girls field hockey defeated Morristown-Beard 6-0 in the Morris County Tournament. They next host Jefferson on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. at .

On Sunday:

  • Girls soccer defeated Roxbury 4-3 (breaking a 3-3 tie in penalty kicks, 4-1) in Roxbury. Chatham fell behind early, but excellent link up play involving Lina Proska set up McCall Moore to score and tie the game. Roxbury took a 2-1 lead into half time after an attempted cross ended up in the net. Chatham came out strong in the second half and leveled again after Kate Murphy's nice turn and shot from 20 yards flew into the corner of the net.  Roxbury took the lead once more before Jaclyn Leto tied the game after heading in McCall Moore's cross with 1 minute remaining in the game.  Chatham continued to press in over time but Roxbury held firm. The tie went to Penalty Kicks, where Emily Hoffman, Kate Murphy, Maggie Higgins, and Liz Hyde were all successful with Morgan Maltby saving 2 of Roxbury's kicks. Captain Hyde, indeed scored the winning penalty kick. Chatham progress to play Randolph in the quarterfinals.
  • Boys cross country competed in the Manhattan Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City. The varsity team placed 7th out of 28 yeams and the JV team placed 8th out of 28 teams.

  • The girls varsity and JV cross country teams competed in the Manhattan Invitational Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City. The varsity team finishd 12th of 25 teams, with Tara Hanley winning in first place for the second consecutive year, and the JV team finished 14th of 26 teams.

  • Girls field hockey travels to Madison High for a 4 p.m. game. Transport leaves at 2:50 p.m.
  • Girls tennis plays Sparta High School at the tennis courts at 4 p.m.
  • The girls JV tennis team plays Sparta High at the tennis courts at 4 p.m.

  • Boys JV football travels to Lenape Valley at 4:30 p.m. Transport leaves at 2:20 p.m.
  • Girls JV field hockey plays Madison in an away game at 5:30 p.m. Transport leaves at 2:50 p.m.
  • Girls JV volleyball plays Morristown-Beard at 5:30 p.m. at the Chatham High gym.

 
The NJSIAA has classified Chatham in North Section II, Group 3.

The next Booster Club meeting will be Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Chatham High media center.
