Engel, DeLade Advance to Regional Tournament

Chatham High duo each place third at district championship.

For two wrestlers, the season continues.

On Saturday, sophomore 112-pounder Justin Engel and senior heavyweight Greg DeLade each solidified their respective spots at the region tournament with third-place finishes in the District 10 tournament at Millburn High School.

The second-seeded Engel began the tournament with a first-period fall of Millburn's Connor Saggio.

Engel then lost Troy Schaafsma, of Seton Hall, in the semifinals, before rebounding to stop Summit's Nicholas Testa with a first-period pin, sealing his spot in the regional tournament, which begins Tuesday night at Union High School.

“I feel really good. It’s my first trip to the regions and it’s really exciting,” Engel said. “I trained hard over the summer, I feel good about this.”

The fourth-seeded DeLade battled to record a 4-3 win over Millburn's Tommy Judge in the consolation round to join his teammate in the regional tournament.

DeLade's road to third place included a win over Cliff Mcisaacs, of Columbia High, and a loss to Madison's Mike Boardman in the semifinal round.

“I wish we could have had more [advance],” Chatham head coach Brian Cassera said, “but the guys who are going deserve it.”

Chatham finished eighth overall in the district, totaling 28 points. Seton Hall captured the district tournament with 230 points, followed by Roselle Park (195), Madison (136), Millburn (106) and Columbia (94).
