Chatham Native Stays with Newark Bears

Mike Ness started three games for the New Jersey Jackals, but Newark holds contractual rights to him for the 2013 season.

After opening for the New Jersey Jackals, Chatham native Mike Ness will return to play for the Newark Bears.

The Bears and the Jackals agreed to a trade on August 18 where they received Ness and Marc Rutledge for Carlos Guzman and Jimmer Kennedy.

Ness pitched in 17 games for the Bears in 2012, including a no-hitter in 11 innings against the Quebec Capitales on July 11.

He started three games for New Jersey, and joined the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League for two starts following the conclusion of the Can-Am League season.

Newark now possesses the contractual rights to the ace pitcher for the 2013 season.
