Chatham Bowlers Fall to Butler

Freshman Bowls 200 Game in Loss.

ROCKAWAY — Despite freshman Bailey Bancroft's team topping 520 score—one that included a game in which he bowled a 200—the Chatham Cougars bowling team fell to Butler, 2-5, at Rockaway Lanes on Tuesday evening.

The young Chatham team fought hard as it took the second game, 818-809, but it wasn't enough to top the league leading Bulldogs who won game one, 832-747, and game three, 864-807.

Bancroft, who started his 200 game strong by scoring strikes in each of the first four frames, was one of two Cougars to break 500 on the night. The other, Tommy Devito, totaled a score of 516 and broke 170 in two of his three games.

"This season has been a rebuilding season," Head Coach Craig Swartz said. "We have two seniors bowling varsity this year and next year and a very good freshman in Bailey Bancroft."

Butler's top performer, Brian Ball, racked up scores of over 230 in two of his games and totaled a score of 650.

The loss gives Chatham a total of 22 points on the season. They now sit in fifth place in the division.

"We will be very good in the future," Swartz said. "It's just one of those years where you lost a lot of your star guys [from the previous year]."

Andrew Halterman and Alex Monks also had games of over 170 for the Cougars, who are set to face Jefferson High School Thursday at 4pm at Rockaway Lanes.
