CAF Reaches Shunpike Fundraising Goal

Over 600 Chatham families and entities contributed to the fundraiser.

The Chatham Athletic Foundation (CAF) has reached 100 percent of its fundraising goal for the Shunpike Field renovation and lighting project.

According to a statement from the foundation, over 600 families and businesses in Chatham purchased bricks, bleachers, benches, dugouts and grandstands for the project, or made donations to help CAF reach their goal of $200,000.

Bricks were sold for $150 for four inch by eight inch bricks, including logos and messages. Eight inch by eight inch bricks were sold for $300, including messages and logos. Benches were $1,500 each and dugouts and bleachers were $5,000 each.

The bricks purchased before Dec. 15 will be installed at Shunpike this spring by the Chatham-based S. Johnson Landscape Management Co., which also designed and installed the patio and entrance to Chatham High School.

Personalized bricks are still available for purchasing through the CAF website. These and other bricks purchased after Dec. 15, 2010 will be installed at a later date, according to a statement from CAF.

Opening Ceremony for Shunpike Field

Township Administrator Tom Ciccarone said that currently the plans to hold the opening ceremony to Shunpike Field is still scheduled for June 4. Work on the field has been delayed due to weather, so a final decision on the date for the opening ceremony will come next week, Ciccarone said.

Free food will be available throughout the festivities, and the ribbon-cutting will occur at 6 p.m.
