YOUTH MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT SENIOR CENTER

We love to have the opportunity to work with the youth of Chatham.  We have a nice partnership with Chatham High School and use the Key Club to bake refreshments for our parties, and musicians from the music department as needed for special events.  Also the drama department is very considerate to invite seniors to attend its dress rehearsals for free.  We have sponsored several Boy Scout Eagle Scout and Girl Scout Gold Award projects, too.

Most recently, Girl Scout Troop 1203 has partnered with the Senior Center to work on its Bronze Award.  This group of about a dozen girls from the Lafayette School recently organized, decorated, and baked for a Valentine’s Day Party.  They came in one evening and decorated the senior center with homemade decorations and centerpieces for each table.  The best part was the talent show these girls put on.  It included music, Irish dancing, magic tricks, a drawing lesson and a gymnastics demonstration.  It was heartwarming to see these young people interacting with our senior citizens who varied in age from 60 to 96.  It was a cold day outside on February 14th, but it was warm and inviting inside at our Valentine's Day Party.

We are lucky to live in a community such as Chatham that respects and welcomes senior citizens.
