Senior Services Center of the Chathams Thanks Supporters

Senior Services Center of the Chathams just finished its Glorious Garden Tour fundraising weekend with a kickoff party attended by 120 followed by the garden tour the next day with 150 patrons.  This was our 5th and most successful garden tour to date. In addition to the committee, comprised of garden enthusiasts and Board members, we wish to thank our 5 gardener/homeowners for lending us their gardens for the day. Joe and Marianne Slamm graciously opened their beautiful historic home for the cocktail party.  Our overall sponsors were Merrill Lynch’s The Harbor Group and Fellowship Senior Living. Weichert Realtors sponsored the cocktail party.  Garden sponsors including Lantern Hill, Porarro Homes, Right at Home, Marianne Slamm of Keller Williams Realty, Simonfay Landscape Services, S. Johnson Landscaping Services, Town & Country Properties and 30 other advertisers.  Other talented specialists, Sarah Stanley, Michele Damodaran and the Town & Country Garden Club, did design work for us. And of course, we wish to thank our wonderful patrons who made the day so special and rewarding.

Some may ask, why does Senior Services need to hold a fundraising event?  The answer is that although one of our main services is running a senior center, we are not a governmental agency.  This makes us different that some other senior centers in the area. Only about 10% of our budget comes from Chatham Borough and Chatham Township respectively.  We are an independent organization and as such must raise the funds we need to meet our modest budget.  So, we hold an annual fund drive, write grants and run fundraisers to bring in money. (If you haven’t given, you can make a donation at www.chathamseniorcenter.org.) We exist because of contributions of generous, community-minded individuals, civic groups, churches, businesses and foundations.  Thank you for your support.
