Patch takes a look at the high school's upcoming spring seasons.
Spring is in bloom, and Chatham High School athletes are gearing up for spring sports. With opening day just around the corner, Patch takes a look at the teams as they prepare for another season. The CHS Varsity Baseball team has plenty of veterans that could make this year a memorable one.
Overview
The Cougars start their season with a new coach and a renewed attitude. Head Coach Bryan Hedgecock comes to a team with readymade cohesion. This year, Hedgecock believes he can suss out his players' strengths and weaknesses to build a more solid team.

"They’ve been playing together, so really I’m just trying to get them to understand how to play with each other, play for each other, and go out there and play the best we can," Hedgecock said.Â

The Cougars finished their season a disappointing 5-16. Â It was their first year playing in the more-competitive Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference, after switching from the Iron Hills Conference.
Keep Your Eye On:
- Brendan Kaufman, Pitcher (Sr.) – The senior southpaw brings consistency and tenacity to the mound.
- Matt Reader, Third Base (Sr.) – Reader has been a strong presence on the team for years, and hopes to make his senior season his best yet.
They'll Miss
- Dan Haus, Centerfield – The Second-Team All Conference outfielder currently plays for the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
- Gio Casale, Pitcher – The pitcher was a solid force on the Cougars' starting line up. He attends Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.Â
- Kevin Giannattasio – A dedicated player and teammate, he now attends Villanova University in Pennsylvania.
- Kevin Falconi, Third Base – Falconi had an impressive game-winning single against Mendham last year, and now is a student at Kean University.

"Our biggest expectation is to see our team come together and really work with each other and for each other to have a successful season. This is my first year; I don’t know a whole lot about last season. I’m coming in with a fresh start." - Hedgecock
