Several Sporting Events Canceled This Weekend

County varsity basketball tournament games still scheduled for Saturday night.

Several Chatham sporting events scheduled for Saturday have been canceled as a winter storm continues to make its approach north toward New Jersey.

A varsity wrestling quad match at Hasbrouck Heights scheduled for 10 a.m. has been postponed, and the men's varsity swimming team's North Jersey Athletic Conference championship, originally set for 9:30 a.m., has also been rescheduled. The swim meet will be held Sunday.

Men's and women's junior varsity basketball games at home against Mendham and Madison scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m., respectively, have been rescheduled for Monday. The varsity ice hockey team's game against Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School at Union Sports Arena has also been postponed to a later date.

A varsity indoor track NJSIAA track meet in Toms River scheduled for 7 p.m. has been postponed to Tuesday.

Varsity county tournament girls' and boys' basketball games scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m. against Kinnelon and Morristown, respectively, at Chatham High School are still tentatively on, as is a junior varsity hockey matchup against Summit High School at Twin Oaks at 7:45 p.m.

School District of the Chathams Superintendent Jim O'Neill said Thursday that he hoped the varsity games, as well as the Chatham Middle School production of Beauty and the Beast tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m., would go on as scheduled.
