Seeking Feedback, School District Releases Online Budget Survey to Residents

The district wants to understand why people voted the way they did.

The School District of the Chathams has released a budget survey to residents in an attempt to gain feedback from voters on why they voted the way they did.

Board of Education members and administrators said at a meeting April 26 they wanted to get a better sense of the public's perception of the budget. The survey asks residents who voted no if they did so because they felt school taxes are too high, are displeased with the district's performance or agree with Gov. Chris Christie, who encouraged people to vote down budgets in districts where teachers didn't agree to a salary freeze. (Chatham's teachers have not agreed to such a measure.)

It asks residents who voted yes if they did so because they've had positive experiences with the school system, or if they did so because they are pleased with the district's performance.

There are also other options residents can select within the yes or no categories, and they are asked to rank their feelings on a scale from one to 10.
