School District Likely to Approve Retirements, Resignations Tonight

At the district's annual reorganization meeting, new board members will also be sworn in.

The School District of the Chathams' Board of Education is scheduled to approve two retirements and two resignations at its annual reorganization meeting tonight.

Business Administrator Ralph Goodwin's retirement will likely be approved at the meeting—which will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Township Hall—as will Lafayette School fourth grade teacher Louis Ferraro's.

The board is also scheduled to approve the resignations of Chatham Middle School Physical Education Teacher Jennifer Gillespie and Chatham High School Science Teacher Todd Bernstein.

At the reorganization meeting, new board members are sworn in, and Matt Gilfillan and John Nonnenmacher, who won two township board seats up for re-election last week, will officially become board members at the meeting tonight. The board will also select a president and vice president—current Board President Roger Rogalin did not seek re-election this year.

Current board Vice President Steve Barna ran unopposed for another three-year term in last week's election and will also be sworn in to the board tonight.

The district is also scheduled to officially eliminate a family and consumer sciences teaching position at Chatham High School and will likely approve the removal of the district's personnel director spot. It will also formally create the new positions of:

  • Mathematics teacher, Chatham High School
  • Science teacher, Chatham High School
  • Social studies/psychology teacher, Chatham High School
  • World language teacher, Chatham High School
  • Mandarin teacher, Chatham High School
  • Mandarin teacher, Chatham Middle School
  • Mathematics teacher, Chatham Middle School
  • Science teacher, Chatham Middle School
  • First grade teacher, Milton Avenue Elementary School
  • Third grade teacher, Southern Boulevard Elementary School
  • Third grade teacher, Washington Avenue Elementary School
  • School counselor.

All of the creations have previously been approved by the board.
