School Board to Vote on Staff Training, Field Trips

The Board of Education meets Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Chatham Township.

Staff training and field trips for the 2011-12 school year are among the items that the Board of Education of the School District of the Chathams will vote on at their meeting on Monday, July 18.

Several teachers and administrative staff will travel to such locations as East Brunswick, East Hanover, Manville, Parsippany and New Providence for training and group meetings during the summer months.

The funds allocated for staff to travel on 16 line-item trips amounts to $2,295.

The board will also vote on a motion to rescind two contracts for long term substitutes and approve three other long term substitutes, and to approve the resignation of Dr. Carolyn Cottrill, who taught Chemistry and Anatomy & Physiology at .

The board will also vote on field trip destinations for the upcoming academic year for classes from Southern Boulevard School, Milton Avenue School, Washington Avenue School, Lafayette Avenue School and Chatham Middle School.

Among the destinations for field trips this year among , and are:

  • Hillview Farms in Meyersville,
  • Alstede Farms in Chester,
  • Wightman Farms in Morristown,
  • the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange,
  • the Bronx Zoo,
  • the Staten Island Zoo,
  • the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn,
  • the Morristown Community Theater,
  • the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City,
  • Washington's Crossing in Titusville,
  • the Museum of Natural History in New York City,
  • the Reeves Reed Arboretum in Summit and
  • the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown.

Students will also visit local attractions such as the Great Swamp, the Red Brick Schoolhouse, the Chatham Emergency Squad and the .

Students from Lafayette Avenue School will visit the Thomas Edison Museum, Ellis Island, the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and the Buehler Space Center in Paramus.

Chatham Middle School students will see a Broadway play and stay overnight in Whippany and will visit Madeline's Petit Paris Restaurant in Northvale, Pheasants Landing German restaurant in Landing, Costa del Sol restaurant in Union, Medieval Times in Lyndhurst and in Chatham.
