Poll Hours, Date Set for School Elections

Election notices will be posted throughout the Chathams.

The of the has approved dates, hours and locations for the April school elections.

All polls will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17. Chatham Borough residents will vote at Chatham Middle School in the upper gym, and Chatham Township residents will vote at Chatham High School in the C gym.

Three sitting board members met the filing deadline on Feb. 27, and no other challengers filed to run for the board.

Thomas Belding, the current board president, will run to represent the borough on the board. Lata Kenny and Al Burgunder will run from Chatham Township.

Each position on the board runs for three years.

Eligible voters have until March 27 to register to vote the school election. The deadline to return mail-in ballots is April 10, and voters can report to the Morris County Election Center for in-person voting between April 10 and 16.

Peter Daquila, the business administrator for the district, said the April elections cost about $11,500. "We pay the election workers, we have to pay the county charge for the election and we have to pay for the voting machines," he said, "and that does not include the district [newsletter]," which is mailed to every household.

The district has also held on the , with another to follow on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the .

Interim Superintendent Dennis Fyffe will also make presentations to the borough and township governing bodies and to each school's Parent Teacher Organization.
